This department offers a variety of subjects to choose from.
All students in year 9 do information technology as an eight week rotation option, and in year 10 students may choose it as a half year course.
Students can choose digital technology in year 11, 12 and 13.
In year 12 and 13, students can choose computer studies. Students learn Microsoft Office 2010 and use the following software applications: Word, Excel, Publisher, Access and PowerPoint while working towards completing the National Certificate in Computing Level 2 and 3. Some topics and concepts expand on information covered in information technology and digital technology. Basic concepts are introduced and students are also expected to work independently through the course work provided.

Computer Studies Level 2
Computing at this level provides students with a good understanding of the main software programs used in business and industry. It also provides students with the skills necessary to confidently and competently use information technology in order to solve problems. The course establishes a good background for students who study other disciplines such as art, English, languages, sciences or mathematics. It is clear that the ability to handle electronic information is a key skill and basic requirement for life and employment in the 21st century. Students have the opportunity to gain the National Certificate in Computing Level 2.
Entry requirements: No previous knowledge of this subject is required.
Computer Studies Level 3
This course will help give students the opportunity to gain at least the minimum number of credits for university entrance. It is also designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to use computers effectively and productively in work or in tertiary education. Students also have the opportunity to gain the National Certificate in Computing Level 3.
Entry requirements: Entry to this course requires the successful completion of the Level 2 computer studies course. However, in exceptional circumstances, students with a high degree of expertise and motivation who did not take the Level 2 computer studies course may be considered.
Digital Technology Level 1
The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to carry out technological practice in the area of ICT. Students will express their creativity when designing and making computer based solutions to issues. Useful software applications and tools will be introduced to enable students to plan, design and create a digital media outcome.
Entry requirements: Completion of the Year 10 Information Technology course provides students with the basic knowledge needed for this course.
Digital Technology Level 2
The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to develop the skills to use a range of digital tools to design,
create, manage and present information in a digital context. The course covers the following areas of study: - Understanding of advanced concepts relating to managing shared information within information systems
- Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data
- Demonstrate understanding of advanced concepts of digital media
- Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome
Entry requirements: Students who did not complete the Level 1 course successfully will not be considered for this course.
Digital Technology Level 3
The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to develop the skills to use a range of digital tools to design, create, manage and present information in a digital context. The course covers the following areas of study:
- Demonstrate understanding of complex concepts of information systems in an organisation
- Demonstrate understanding of complex concepts of digital media Implement complex procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome
- Develop a conceptual design considering fitness for purpose in the broadest sense
Entry requirements: Students who did not complete the Level 1 or 2 course successfully will not be considered for this course.
