Kia ora tatou katoa,

Stratford High School has a proud history of providing quality secondary education to Stratford and the surrounding area since 1897. We are committed to providing an environment that is warm, inclusive and that offers the educational opportunities for every student to be the best they can be. The promotion of our mission statement (above) is supported by our HEART values which drive how we do things, and our recently co-constructed Learner Profile that contains the key transferable skills that are relevant for our learners today. We have been through significant change in recent times, both within our staff and our curriculum. We have had four new Senior Leaders start since 2020, which has contributed to a new direction for our school.

In 2021 we began a full-scale review of our curriculum. This review involved students, staff and the wider community. The result of this work sees the implementation of a dynamic and engaging modular curriculum in Years 9 and 10, which has been designed with our learners at the heart of our programme and is based on the New Zealand Curriculum. The purpose of this future-focused curriculum is to develop our students’ love of learning by exposing them to new opportunities and finding their interests and passions before they begin to specialise
in Year 11 for NCEA.

In 2023 we begin our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme to support digital learning. The use of digital devices and blended learning are effective in helping our students become informed and active participants in society, grow communication and collaboration skills, develop curiosity and creativity, and improve thinking.

We offer a wide range of sporting and cultural activities to support the enactment of our school vision of developing well rounded young people, ready to excel in the world. We have national and regional representatives in multiple sports and our music and drama students have had success regionally in recent years. Students have the opportunity to be a part of a school production, with 2022 offering a full-scale Moana production to our community.

Our students continue to exceed expectations in academic, sporting and cultural endeavours and live our HEART values daily. Why wouldn’t you want to join Stratford High School!
