Board of Trustees Scholarship

The School Board of Stratford High School is offering academic scholarships for students intending to enrol as Year 9 students in 2024.

Up to five scholarships will be awarded with a value of $400 each for the first year. Subsequent years the scholarship will be valued at $200.

The scholarship exams will be at Stratford High School on Tuesday 22nd August 2023 at 10.00 am. Students are to meet in the main school foyer by 9.50 am and will be finished by 12 noon.

Terms of Award:

1. The scholarship will be awarded for up to five years. Continuation of the scholarship each year is dependent on satisfactory academic achievement with a focus on curriculum levels 4 and 5 and gaining NCEA Level 1 or 2 endorsed with Merit or endorsed with Excellence.
2. The scholarship is only available for use while the student is enrolled at Stratford High School.
3. The number of scholarships awarded each year will be at the discretion of the School Board.
4. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement. Applicants will sit the academic tests.
5. The scholarship will take the form of an account at Stratford High School against which the student can use to charge school expenses such as: uniform costs, sports fees and equipment costs, school fees and any other school related expenses.
6. The value of the scholarship may be amended at the discretion of the SHS School Board.

Robert Reid Tyrer Scholarship

The RR Tyrer Scholarship is awarded following a bequest by the late Mr Robert Reid Tyrer. Mr Tyrer’s father was the first principal of Stratford High School. The scholarship is available to assist a rural student from a contributing rural school to attend Stratford High School.

Up to three scholarships can be awarded for next year with a maximum value of $400 each.

Terms of Award:

1. The scholarship will be awarded annually. Any current holder is entitled to apply for the subsequent year.
2. The scholarship is only available for use while the student is currently enrolled at Stratford High School.
3. The amount of the scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded each year will be at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
4. Applicants will have attended a rural primary school in central Taranaki and live in a rural location.
5. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic ability, general character and participation in school, community and sporting activities.
6. The scholarship will take the form of an account at Stratford High School against which the student could charge school expenses such as: uniform costs, sports fees and equipment costs, school fees and any other school related expenses.
